Council approves minor general-plan amendment, rezoning for city-owned recycling center

The Maricopa City Council approved a minor general-plan amendment and a concurrent rezoning to align city zoning and the general-plan maps with the existing use of a city-owned recycling center.
City planner Alexander Bosworth presented the request, describing a roughly 2.2-acre site at the northwest corner of the Green Road alignment and West McDavid Road "just north of the Maricopa Meadows Subdivision." Bosworth said staff proposed changing the land-use designation from mixed use to employment and amending the zoning map from a general classification to "light industrial" to reflect the present recycling operations.
Bosworth told the council the city followed required public-notice procedures, including mailing notices within 600 feet of the site, posting a sign on the property and holding a Planning & Zoning Commission hearing. "As required by city code, the city has conducted the required public notification," he said.
The council took separate motions on the general-plan amendment (Case GPA 23-03) and the rezone (Case Z 23-02) and approved both items. A public hearing was held; no substantive public objections to the proposed change were recorded on the council floor.
