Maria Korr, a member of the City of Maricopa Cultural Affairs and Arts Committee, introduced artist Veronica Lichenstaya and presented a newly completed signal-box mural during the Nov. 20 meeting.
Lichenstaya said the piece depicts a family bike ride on Honeycutt Street, inspired by seasonal neighborhood rides and the city's Superbloom display. “I wanted to make a mural of a joyful bike bridal...a blissful joyride,” Lichenstaya said. She told the council that families riding by the mural have said it captures scenes from Maricopa life.
Committee member Peg Chapidos used the public comment period to promote the Maricopa Main Street Marketplace Arts and Crafts Show and a public-art exhibit at the Maricopa Library. Chapidos said the library exhibit is open to artists with hangable work and that applications are online; the original application deadline was Dec. 4 but may be extended.
City staff and the Cultural Affairs and Arts Committee encouraged residents to view the public artworks and to apply for the library exhibit and the marketplace event.
