Developers pitch Copper Sky Medical Campus; council tables land‑sale and development items amid concerns over enforceable hospital commitments
Summary
Developers pitched a phased medical campus at Copper Sky that would include a minimum 24‑bed hospital and medical office building, but the council tabled related land‑sale and development items after questions about enforceable commitments and appraisals.
Developers presented a concept for a Copper Sky Medical Campus on Feb. 18 that combines a medical office building, an ambulatory surgery center, and an acute‑care hospital with a minimum of 24 inpatient beds.
AJ Thomas, president of BR Companies, and architect Jesse Slim described a phased campus that could include a medical office building of 30,000 to 80,000 square feet, an ambulatory surgery center and a hospital with imaging capabilities. ‘‘What we are trying to solve here is trying to solve a deficiency for the city of Maricopa for primary care, specialty care, and inpatient care,’’ Thomas said during the presentation.
