Council approves multiple right‑of‑way abandonments near John Wayne Parkway

Maricopa City Council — The council approved a series of resolutions vacating portions of public right of way on West Honeycutt Avenue, North Maricopa Road and West Mercado Street, city staff said during public hearings.
Alexander Bosworth presented abandonment requests ABDN24-001, ABDN24-002, ABDN24-013 and related items, saying each request was initiated by the City of Maricopa and that public notification was conducted in accordance with city ordinance. Bosworth told the council staff found the segments in question are not part of any capital improvement program, transportation facility or other plan, and that the city has no plans to improve or use those portions of right of way. He said no public comments were received prior to the hearings.
For each abandonment, Bosworth recommended approval subject to conditions listed in the staff reports. The council moved, seconded and voted to approve the resolutions (agenda references included resolution 24-11 and 24-16 among others); no public speakers addressed the items during the hearings.
City staff said the abandoned portions will be acquired by adjacent property owners without compensation and noted the notification reports are part of the exhibits for each item. The council did not identify related CIP projects for the affected parcels during discussion.
The resolutions passed on council votes recorded as “Aye” with no recorded opposition.
