City auditors presented the results of the fiscal year 2024 audit to the Maricopa City Council on Feb. 18, reporting an unmodified (clean) opinion and no audit findings.
Christopher Heinfeld of Heinfeld Meach & Company, the city’s audit partner, told the council the annual comprehensive financial report was issued Dec. 18 and that the audit showed no material adjustments to the financial statements. ‘‘There were no audit adjustments that were required for the financial statements,’’ Heinfeld said.
Heinfeld described the audit process and the single‑audit review of federal funds, including the city’s state and local fiscal recovery funds. He said the firm found no material weaknesses or significant deficiencies in internal control and reported no federal compliance findings. He noted the city corrected a prior‑year finding related to federal revenue recognition.
Finance Manager Chris Everpew and the city manager acknowledged the finance team’s work. Everpew said the team is smaller than finance staffs at comparable cities and credited staff for producing the reports early. "When compared to cities of comparable size, generally their finance team is about 2 to 3 times larger than ours is," Everpew said during his introduction.
Council members asked whether the audit had turned up any evidence of wrongdoing; the auditors responded it had not. The audit report and related documents are available in the agenda packet, and council members noted the full audit runs more than 150 pages and is posted on the city clerk’s agenda page for public review.
No formal council action was required on the audit presentation at the meeting.
