Casa Grande council appoints Adriana Carpio Solas as city clerk

The Casa Grande City Council on Feb. 18 approved the appointment of Adriana Carpio Solas as City Clerk, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of City Clerk Gloria Leija.
Staff recommended the appointment pursuant to Article 4, Section 2 of the City Charter, which requires council approval for the City Clerk appointment. Staff said Carpio Solas was selected after a national recruitment process that produced five finalists.
According to the staff presentation, Carpio Solas currently serves as deputy city clerk for the city of Maricopa (since February 2013), holds a Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Los Angeles, and has earned professional certifications including Certified Municipal Clerk, Certified Municipal Election Official, Certified State of Arizona Election Official and Passport Acceptance Agent Manager. Staff said Carpio Solas plans to begin employment on Monday, March 31 and will spend a week working with outgoing Clerk Gloria Leija before Leija’s retirement.
The council passed the appointment by voice vote after a motion to appoint and a second. Council members publicly welcomed Carpio Solas at the meeting; she was present in the audience with her husband when introduced.
No additional personnel details or employment terms were discussed at the meeting; staff said standard onboarding and transition activities are planned.
