Planning commission approves Showplace storage condominium preliminary plat

Lake Havasu City Planning and Zoning Commission on Aug. 7 approved a preliminary subdivision plat for Showplace Condominium Storage, a proposed 60-unit storage-condominium project at 6550 Showplace Avenue.
Staff described the property as roughly 4.3 acres north of the Shops of Lake Havasu and north of Anderson Toyota and said the site was part of a 2017 planned development amendment that allowed storage units in place of a former car lot. The commission received the staff report and heard a brief statement from the applicant before voting.
The applicant, represented by Lee Johnson of APL Surveyor, briefly answered commissioners’ questions about the project layout and phases; staff noted the site includes two lots to be developed in phases. There were no members of the public who addressed the commission on this item during the public hearing.
Commissioner Michael Gordon moved to approve Land Use Action ID 19-2096, a preliminary plat for Showplace Storage Condominiums at 6550 Showplace Avenue; the motion was seconded by Mr. McGowan and the commission voted to approve the motion (motion passes 6 to 0).
Staff recommended approval, stating the proposal meets the subdivision requirements in Title 13. The Development Review Committee’s findings and the commission’s decision approve the preliminary plat; subsequent submittals (civil plans, final plat and building permit applications) remain subject to standard plan-review and permit requirements.
The commission moved on to the next agenda item following the vote.
