The Lake Havasu City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday to award a bid of $98,574.90 to JDB Equipment Corporation for replacement of the screenings compactor and shaftless screw conveyor at the Island Treatment Plant.
Public Works staff explained the installed equipment, originally placed in February 2007 with an expected 20-year life, has reached near the end of its practical service life (it lasted about 12โ13 years). Staff recommended adjusting the asset-life assumptions in the city27s asset management system to flag inspections and replacements earlier.
Mark Clark, Public Works, described how screenings fall onto the conveyor and how hydrogen sulfide in wastewater accelerates corrosion and wear on metal parts. The replacement package will include the screening, compactor and shaftless screw conveyor necessary to maintain daily treatment operations.
The recommended vendor was the lowest responsive bidder after the apparent low bidder could not meet the city27s requested delivery schedule. Vice Mayor David Lane moved to award the bid to JDB Equipment Corporation for $98,574.90 (including estimated sales tax); Council Member Jenny Coke seconded. The motion carried 6 to 0.
Staff urged residents to avoid flushing non-biodegradable items that increase wear on wastewater equipment; the presentation noted improper flushing aggravates pump and system problems.
The contract award allows Public Works to proceed with procurement and scheduling to minimize disruption at the treatment plant.
