Colleen Bridal, with the Havasu Community Health Foundation Food Bank, told the Lake Havasu City Council on Sept. 10 that the food bank marked one year in operation and is now serving about 1,000 families in the city.
"We are now serving 1,000 families in the city," Bridal said, and invited the public to the food bank’s one-year anniversary and hunger-awareness outreach on Sept. 19 during the McCulloch car show. She asked residents to avoid judging clients by appearance or vehicle and encouraged anyone skeptical of the food bank’s stewardship to volunteer for a day to see operations.
Bridal provided practical information for residents: the food bank is at 1980 North Kiowa Boulevard and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; staff can make accommodations for people who cannot attend during those hours. She said the facility includes a clothing closet and that donated items (toiletries, clothing, toys) are available at no cost.
The council did not take action on the remarks; the presentation occurred during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
