Keane said the city will rename the Community Development department to Planning and Development Services; the renamed division will include building safety and code compliance, planning, and real estate functions. She said housing staff will move to report directly to the city manager’s office and that in roughly six months housing will be made its own division under the city manager.
Keane said the city expects to post the Planning and Development Services director recruitment soon and named Michelle McNulty as interim community development director during the transition. She invited commissioners to participate in a meet‑and‑greet process when the recruitment reaches that stage.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for elevating housing in the organization. Keane said the reorganization is intended to provide resources and focus to advance housing work and the 10‑year housing plan, and that Council has been briefed during its retreat.
