Sounds of Autism presented a certificate recognizing the city of Goodyear as a unified responder community for its autism awareness efforts; the nonprofit praised the mayor, council and city departments for their collaboration.
At the start of the Feb. 10 meeting, Jamie Aldauman, executive director of Sounds of Autism, presented the City of Goodyear with a ‘‘Unified Responder Community’’ certificate recognizing the city’s work supporting people living with autism.
Aldauman said Sounds of Autism had tracked local autism-awareness efforts over the past year and that Goodyear ‘‘has checked all the boxes’’ for training and collaboration across city departments and community partners. “It is now in your DNA. It is now in the fabric of your community and your leadership, mayor,” she told council.
Aldauman named several community partners who worked alongside the city, including West Valley Mavericks, Kiwanis, the Goodyear chief of police, Goodyear fire chief, Goodyear Parks and Recreation, and the West Valley Chamber of Commerce. She invited council to accept the certificate on behalf of the city.
Mayor and council members accepted the recognition and thanked Sounds of Autism and local partners for their work. The presentation was a ceremonial recognition; no council action was required.
