Goodyear Ballpark readies 17th Cactus League season; opening day Feb. 22

John Brown, assistant general manager for business development at Goodyear Ballpark, told the City Council on Feb. 10 that the park’s 17th Cactus League spring training season opens Feb. 22 and runs through March 23.
Brown said opening day will feature both of the park’s teams — the Guardians and the Cincinnati Reds — and is designated as the ballpark’s annual charity game: the Guardians will support City of Hope and the Reds will support the New Life Center. “The seventeenth spring training season begins on February 22,” Brown said.
Brown described ballpark improvements added during the offseason, including a new premium home plate box seating section directly behind home plate with more spacious seating and a drink rail. The season will include three night games and a special doubleheader on March 14 featuring Mariners and Guardians prospects.
Giveaways return this year: a throw blanket on opening day (Feb. 22), a pint glass on March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day game), and a leather coaster on March 23. Kids Run the Bases returns March 1 for Saturday games and Seniors Stroll the Bases on Feb. 26 and March 5. Military appreciation discounts, special child ticket pricing for all 30 games, and select discounted senior tickets were also highlighted.
Brown said the ballpark schedule continues to support community events after spring training, including Goodyear Little League, high school graduations, the Perfect Game tournaments and the city’s signature events. He directed residents to goodyearbp.com for the full event calendar.
