Committee accepts low bid for main lobby wall; administration presents FY26 capital improvement plan

The Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical School Committee on April 25 accepted and acknowledged a bid award for the main lobby wall project and reviewed an informational capital improvement plan for fiscal 2026.
Two bids were received for the main foyer lobby wall project. Collins Construction submitted the low bid: a base bid of $219,124 and an alternate for columns and the LED screen totaling $234,321, for a combined total of $453,445. South Coast Construction submitted a base bid of $262,191 and an alternate of $215,979, totaling $478,170. The committee accepted Collins as the low bidder and authorized district administration to act on the alternate(s) as materials and timing allow.
Administration described the work as the full-height wall in the main foyer (two auditorium entrances) including removable name panels for shop programs and an LED display (an LED screen replaces the old projector). The committee discussed timing and materials availability: administration said vendor lead times could require off-site storage of components and that installation might be deferred until after the school year if materials arrive late. Administration noted the technology component is separate from the base construction work and that the LED screen is similar to an existing LED display used elsewhere in district facilities (the screen described as approximately 271 inches diagonal).
Separately, at a committee member’s request, administration presented a draft FY26 capital improvement plan listing multiple prioritized projects aligned with the district strategic vision. Administration warned the total estimated cost of the list exceeds available revenue and said it expects to pursue projects based on priority and available funds. The plan was informational; no capital-plan vote was taken at the meeting.
The committee approved acknowledgement of the bid award and authorization to proceed with Collins Construction where feasible; administration will update the committee on materials timing and scheduling.
