Pelham superintendent announces retirement; board accepts resignation to take effect June 30

"I am writing to inform you that I will be retiring 06/30/2025," Dr. Ledbetter read to the board, citing family obligations and a desire to care for his elderly parents.
Board members moved and seconded acceptance of the resignation and voted to approve the request. The board did not take additional action on a successor during the meeting but said it will develop and publish a search process for the vacancy.
In his remarks to the board, Dr. Ledbetter highlighted Pelham’s academic gains, extracurricular successes and community support during his three years as superintendent and described the decision to step away as personal and deliberate. Board members who spoke after the vote praised his leadership and said they will work to ensure an orderly transition.
At the meeting, board members signaled an intention to be transparent about the search, to consider internal and external candidates, and to publish the process once the board agrees on a plan. Board leaders said they will follow the process strictly and invite the public to hold the board accountable to it.
The board’s acceptance of the resignation sets a June 30, 2025, effective date for Dr. Ledbetter’s departure; officials said the district will begin planning next steps, including a timeline for the search and interim coverage if needed.
