Madison County UGA Extension reports 4‑H successes, FAMACHA training and new ServSafe instructor capability

Extension staff updated the Board of Commissioners on recent Madison County University of Georgia Extension office activities including agricultural training, youth 4‑H events and a staff member qualifying to provide ServSafe food-safety certification locally.
Staff said the extension office cleared out two trailer loads of material from its downstairs area with assistance from the sheriff’s office inmate work crew and plans local painting projects that may involve schoolchildren. On the agricultural side the extension partnered with the Madison County Young Farmers Association to offer FAMACHA training — a method to assess internal parasites in sheep and goats — and 17 residents completed certification.
The county’s livestock judging junior team placed third at the state contest in March; staff noted the team included fourth-, fifth-, sixth- and eighth-graders. Extension staff also reported that an employee, Emily, completed ServSafe instructor training, which enables the office to offer ServSafe certification classes in the community; previously she held certification but was not authorized to teach the course locally.
Staff said 4‑H programming continues with cloverleaf and district contests and that club meetings and summer schedules are underway. The extension office provided state and national participation snapshots and urged the public to follow upcoming county events; staff noted meeting is livestreamed and available on YouTube.
