WVU Extension 4‑H highlights summer camps, school partnerships to Monongalia board

Becca Flint Clark of WVU Extension presented the county 4‑H program to the Monongalia County Board of Education on April 29, describing school partnerships, summer camps, fair participation and hands‑on activities used to support teachers and student learning.
Clark said the extension’s 4‑H programming is present in all elementary schools and many middle schools and provides activities teachers can integrate into classrooms. She told the board the program is funded in part by the school board levy and that dozens of campers have already registered for summer camps.
A student participant, Josie Tanton, a senior at University High School, described 4‑H as formative to her development. She said her experience began with livestock projects and expanded to leadership and community service roles, including serving as a counselor at camp and as president of her local club. "It shaped my values, developed my skills, and has given me so many experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life," Tanton said in the meeting record.
Clark thanked the board for support and noted the program’s role in providing hands‑on agricultural projects and leadership development opportunities that extend classroom learning.
