House advances amended "live local" affordable-housing bill after multi-committee changes

The substitute also establishes preferences for certain employer-sponsored housing programs (including hospital and public-sector employee housing) and allows developers to use specified funding sources to give housing preferences to employees. The Wekiva Protection Area and Everglades Protection Area were explicitly exempted from Live Local effective dates. Representative Lopez said the substitute deleted some earlier controversial language and added clarity on definitions of commercial, industrial and mixed use.
Members debated the bill in structured debate and sponsors emphasized improvements resulting from committee amendments and stakeholder input. Representative Lopez said the measure now balances local control with statewide action to address Florida's housing shortage and urged support. The House recorded final passage at 109 yeas to 3 nays.
