Solanco board delays final 2025-26 budget vote until May 5

The Solanco School District Board of School Directors on April 28 voted to table approval of the district's proposed final 2025-26 budget until the board's May 5 meeting.
Board members approved routine monthly financial reports before tabling the budget. Mrs. Tucker, a district staff member who presented the finance reports, said the balance in the general fund on March 31 was $31,714,298.86. She reported the Capital Project Fund balance on March 31 as $27,323,418.26 and the cafeteria fund balance as $1,698,954.55.
The board approved the general fund, capital project and cafeteria reports by voice vote. During discussion earlier in the meeting Mrs. Tucker told the board that state budget uncertainty made the proposed final budget complex enough that staff want to "straighten out" unresolved items before presenting a final version; the board then moved to delay the vote until the May 5 meeting.
Why it matters: final budget adoption sets appropriation levels and spending limits for the coming school year. Tabling the vote leaves those final decisions pending while staff resolve outstanding state-budget-related uncertainties.
The board also approved student activity and athletic reports for the year to date; Mrs. Tucker reported the student activity fund balance on March 31 was $248,668.53 and that the athletic program had a year-to-date net cost of $726,935.80 borne in part by the general fund.
The board is scheduled to revisit the proposed final budget at its May 5 meeting.
