Valley View Board swears in new members and elects leadership; outgoing members honored

The Valley View CUSD 365U Board of Education completed its reorganization Wednesday, swearing in newly elected members and electing board officers for the coming term.
Oaths of office were administered as part of the meeting’s reorganization, with the ceremony introduced as “part of state statute.” After the swearing‑in, the board nominated and approved leadership: the board elected Steve Quigley as president (roll call: all in favor as recorded), Elizabeth “Liz” Campbell as vice president, Vicky Sutterland as board secretary, John Renish as treasurer and Patty Areola as recording secretary. The nominations were made from the floor, seconded and approved by roll call.
The board also used the meeting to recognize the service of two outgoing members. President Quigley read proclamations honoring Deborah (Debbie) Sikora for her 2013–2025 service, noting her background as a retired middle school mathematics teacher and her advocacy for students. The board likewise recognized Victor Zack for his service since 2016 and his work on financial stewardship, facilities modernization and post‑high school opportunities.
Sikora, who announced her retirement from the board after decades in the district, addressed the audience and thanked colleagues, family and district staff. Several speakers, including board members and members of the public, praised her and Zack’s dedication.
No contested leadership elections were recorded; roll calls for each nomination were taken and recorded as unanimous in the meeting minutes. The board’s reorganization concludes the formal transition; the body will resume regular agenda business at its next meeting on May 12.
