Aransas County commissioners on April 21 accepted notice that a private owner is prepared to donate roughly 65 acres to the county and authorized the county attorney’s office to begin the property-transfer process.
County staff said the parcel includes undeveloped tracts and paper streets from an older subdivision; the donor and a current holder of title are engaged in the transfer process. Staff advised that title research, surveys and grant-of-easement checks will be required before closing.
Commissioners asked whether adding donated land into the county’s Pathways program (a public amenities/parkway initiative discussed at prior meetings) would require a voter election; the court directed the county attorney to research the statutory and ballot requirements and report back.
The motion to authorize the county attorney’s engagement passed unanimously. Presenters and commissioners noted the parcel’s environmental features and potential suitability for passive public access, but they also flagged that parts sit in floodplain and may require substantial work before development or heavy use.
County staff said the donor intends to convey the property to the county first; the court can later decide whether to place the land in Pathways or allocate it differently.
