Construction staff updated the Red Oak ISD Board on progress at the Shaw Middle School site and showed photos of interior and exterior work.
Dr. Lam told trustees the project is about 67% complete and crews have begun energizing air-conditioning units and installing interior finishes. "They've started turning on the AC units," Lam said, adding that flooring, ceiling tile, dry-erase boards, and restroom partitions are in place in many classrooms. He said the district has completed about one-third of utility-line work on Westmoreland and that sidewalk and entrance widening work is under way.
Lam showed photos of completed and in-progress work including tennis courts with fencing and lighting, the football field, collaborative learning spaces, science and art classrooms, the library, the cafeteria and stage, and multiple gym spaces. He said one of the gyms will serve as a storm shelter.
Lam cautioned that rain has repeatedly turned parts of the site into a "mud factory," slowing some exterior work, and that some outdoor work remains limited until the site dries. Trustees had no formal action on the item; the presentation was informational.
The construction update was given as part of the superintendent's reports; staff said they will continue to share progress updates with the board as the project proceeds.
