Wickland, identified himself as a sergeant in the patrol division, said deputies handled three theft reports, two burglaries and two damaged‑property reports during the month. Deputies conducted 242 traffic stops that led to 43 traffic citations.
Notable incidents included a March 1 stop near Viking Boulevard NE and East Bethel Boulevard in which the driver initially refused a preliminary breath test, was transported to a facility and provided a breath sample that showed a blood‑alcohol concentration of 0.20. The driver was booked on third‑degree DWI.
Wickland also described a March 14 stop where deputies located a scale, multiple baggies and a white powdery substance that field‑tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine. Officers seized a firearm and $1,600 in cash; Wickland said the total narcotics seized from that stop weighed 4.31 pounds. He noted he double‑checked the report to confirm the weight and said laboratory testing results were pending.
Other incidents included a March 20 arrest after deputies located a person with an outstanding probation warrant; a search incident recovered 10 grams of a substance that later field‑tested positive for methamphetamine. Overall, deputies reported 10 vehicle crashes in March, down from previous months.
Wickland urged residents to buckle seatbelts, observe speed limits and call 911 to report dangerous driving. The council thanked deputies for their work.
