The Anchorage Advisory Committee used part of its meeting to review Sunshine Law guidance, public-records best practices and meeting logistics for future agenda items.
Why it matters: advisory committees must follow state open-meeting and public-records rules; members discussed how to coordinate with staff without violating the Sunshine Law and how to route public-record requests.
What was discussed: committee members recapped training takeaways: public meetings must be noticed, minutes taken, and committee business should not be conducted in private between members. The town attorney and staff guidance were referenced; members were reminded that communications about committee business on private devices are discoverable and that public-record requests should be routed to the town clerk (Amy Baker was named as the recipient to process requests).
Meeting scheduling and agenda planning: members noted potential conflicts with Memorial Day and discussed moving the regular May meeting from Monday, May 26, to a nearby date (the committee agreed to have staff check available dates and circulate a recap and proposed schedule). The committee also asked staff to prepare a one-page summary of dredging/canal history and a list of deliverables for the rest of the year.
Adjournment: a motion to adjourn was moved by Sam and seconded; the committee voted in favor and adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
Ending: staff will circulate a meeting recap, proposed next dates and the follow-up one-pager requested by the committee.
