Anacortes council authorizes $181,712 amendment for Pump Station 16 construction engineering support

Anacortes City Council on April 28 authorized a $181,712 modification to the city's engineering contract with Wilson Engineering LLC to provide construction engineering support during the reconstruction of Pump Station 16, increasing the total contract price to $440,002.

The change was presented by Andy Rayum, public works director, who told the council Wilson Engineering designed the pump station and that construction will be performed by Faber Construction. Rayum described the modification as contingency for construction-phase engineering: "The amount before you is a bit on the high end, but that's because we're not sure what they're going to need. I wouldn't expect to use that amount of money. That's just if all things fall apart, such as not being able to get parts," he said.

The council took the matter up as possible action after Rayum's presentation. Councilmember Fantini moved to authorize the mayor to sign the modification; Councilmember Young seconded. The roll call vote recorded unanimous approval. The motion text approved by the council authorized the mayor to sign a modification with Wilson Engineering LLC in the amount of $181,712, increasing the total contract price to $440,002.

The council did not change the identity of the construction contractor on the record; Rayum said Faber Construction is the contractor the council previously approved to reconstruct the lift station. Rayum emphasized the modification is intended to make construction-phase design expertise available should the contractor or city encounter questions or require design clarifications during construction.

No further conditions or amendments to the motion were recorded. The council then moved on to other business.
