Council hears updates on cruise-terminal deck repairs, Civic Center demo transfers and $300,000 parks camera funding

City staff and councilmembers discussed maintenance and future options for the cruise terminal parking deck, transfers of surplus funds related to the Civic Center project, and a proposed $300,000 transfer to improve security cameras in city parks.

On the cruise-terminal deck, staff said the existing structure is precast and has required recurring maintenance because exposed rebar and concrete spalling have developed over time. Staff said the city has spent roughly $300,000 a year on maintenance of that deck and described options including demolishing and replacing the deck with a cast-in-place structure similar to the new arena design; such a replacement would likely require tearing down the existing structure and rebuilding rather than simply adding levels.
