City Clerk Judy Rice administered oaths of office to Timothy Robert Martin, Donald Long and Tony Maison at a City of Newberry meeting after announcing the certified municipal election results.
The swearing-in established Timothy Robert Martin as mayor, and confirmed two commissioners. During each oath the officeholder repeated the formal oath, including the pledge “I do solemnly swear that I am a citizen of the state of Florida,” language used during the ceremony.
The commission then took up Resolution 2025-15, the appointment of a chairperson pro tem and an alternate. The resolution cites the city charter (Article 4, Section 17) and specifies that each position is to be selected by the affirmative vote of at least three members and that the term of the positions is one year. The resolution was read into the record and adopted as presented.
Commissioner Farnsworth moved to appoint Commissioner Tony Maison as chairperson pro tem; the measure was approved by voice vote. Commissioner Farnsworth then moved to appoint Commissioner Ricky Coleman as the alternate pro tem; Commissioner Clark seconded that motion and the commission approved it by voice vote.
During public comment, resident Elizabeth Mason praised her son, a newly sworn official, for his dedication and character, saying, “I just come up to say I'm so thankful for my son. He's a faithful person, loyal to his family, very dedicated to his job, and really love the Lord.” City staff also offered congratulations on behalf of city employees. The meeting included a brief presentation of a plaque and gavel honoring outgoing Mayor Jordan Marlowe’s service; Marlowe accepted the recognition and offered brief remarks of thanks.
The appointments and the swearing-in change the commission’s internal succession for chair duties: under the charter and the newly adopted resolution, the pro tem and alternate will serve one-year terms and step in when the mayor is absent. The meeting concluded with the commission adjourning.
