Operation Uplift North Charleston to launch six-week job-training program with local employer partners

Organizers of Operation Uplift North Charleston reported to the City Council on April 24 that the program will begin a six-week training course intended to place participants in career-track jobs.
Louis Smith, executive director of the Community Resource Center, told council the Operation Uplift event reached "thousands" of residents across the city and that the program will offer a six-week course for roughly 20 students, with guaranteed employment opportunities on completion. Smith named Veil Brothers, Mercedes‑Benz and Steve Adore & Company as confirmed employer partners and said the program will work with companies at the Port of Charleston and other local employers.
Antonio Rivers, vice president of the Palmetto State Barbers Association, said the association will help mentor students on professional image, workplace expectations and business skills; the organizers said advertising would begin soon. Councilmembers thanked the organizers and asked that the group work with district schools and city staff where appropriate. No formal city funding or council action on the program was recorded during the meeting.
