The Infrastructure Committee approved staff recommendation to enter into a warranty service provider agreement and a field service provider operating agreement with Ford Motor Company so municipal mechanics can perform warranty repairs in the city's own shop.
Public Works Director Aaron Huthery said warranty service delays with a local Ford dealer have affected police vehicles that operate across multiple shifts. "We could become a licensed facility to perform warranty work right at our own shop and not have to have that sitting over there," Huthery said.
City staff reviewed Ford's agreements with the city solicitor, finance director and safety manager. Huthery said Ford revised the contracts to address some city concerns. The city will invest in diagnostic and training software as part of routine budgeted investments; Huthery said no additional equipment purchases are required and no additional costs are anticipated. "The maintenance work will be performed by our techs and that we will receive payment from Ford Motor Company for time and parts," he said.
Huthery reported positive feedback from police maintenance staff who expect in‑house warranty authorization to speed vehicle turnaround. The committee voted to approve entering the agreements; the transcript records voice approval with no roll‑call tally.
