The Board of Supervisors on April 21 adopted a proclamation imposing outdoor‑fire and permissible consumer‑fireworks restrictions effective 8 a.m. April 22 in Fire Zones 3 and 4 of the Hualapai (also spelled Walapai) Mountain range in unincorporated Mohave County.
County emergency-management and fire staff advised the board that snowpack and fuel‑moisture levels in the affected higher‑elevation zones are lower than historic averages—roughly 40% of typical moisture—heightening fire risk in heavier fuels at those elevations. The county’s emergency manager noted that the restriction is limited to county jurisdiction (private and county land) in the mapped zones; federal, state and tribal lands follow their respective authorities and are not governed by the county proclamation.
Staff cited coordination and support from the Bureau of Land Management, the Arizona State Forestry and Fire Management agency and local fire districts. The board adopted the proclamation pursuant to ARS §26‑311 and Mohave County Ordinance 2013‑04.
Supervisor discussion was brief; the board approved a motion to adopt the proclamation by voice vote. Staff said they will reassess conditions and consider additional actions for other areas of the county if conditions change.
