A staff member with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control said adopters will receive access to a new post-adoption support app, Petzl, that stores a pet's records and offers training resources.
The announcement matters because the app centralizes information that adopters commonly need after taking a pet home, such as vaccine records and microchip numbers, and can speed routine follow-up care. "The Petzl app will have everything from your dog's estimated birth date, their microchip number. They'll also have their vet records, all their behavior notes from inside the shelter," the staff member said.
According to the presentation, Petzl includes an estimated birth date for the animal, microchip numbers, veterinary records, and behavior notes recorded while the animal was in the shelter. The app also offers training videos and articles on topics such as introducing a dog to a new home and introducing a new dog to other pets in the household. The presenter noted the app includes retail coupons from PetSmart and Petco.
The county said Petzl will display veterinarians near the adopter's address in the system; veterinarians marked with a heart icon indicate they will offer a free wellness exam within the first 10 days after adoption. "So it's as if you're taking your dog to the vet in a couple months or so and you're trying to find those vaccine records, you're gonna have it right at your fingertips and really easy to find," the staff member said.
A second speaker reiterated that the records and resources on the Petzl app are intended to "ensure a smooth transition for your new furry friend as they become part of your family." The presentation did not specify a rollout date, any costs to adopters, or how long records will be retained.
No formal vote or policy action was recorded on the app during the meeting excerpt provided.
