Graham County approves new surveillance officer for intensive probation unit

The Graham County Board of Supervisors approved adding a surveillance officer in the county's intensive probation unit to address a rising caseload.
Herman Andrews of probation told the board, "Today, I'm here to seek approval for a surveillance officer position, and that's for our intensive probation department. We have our numbers are super high." He explained that rather than adding both a probation officer and a surveillance officer, the department would add a single surveillance officer to increase coverage.
Andrews gave staffing context: "Right now, our numbers are floating around about 32, 30 3 on intensive probation" and the requested position would allow the department to cover higher caseloads. When asked whether the position would require another vehicle, Andrews said the state provides vehicles and he would request an additional state vehicle if the new surveillance officer is approved.
A supervisor moved to approve the position; the board voted by voice and the motion passed.
