Board approves broader vehicle-purchasing options to include leases, cooperatives and alternative vendors

Derek told the board that the old policy "limited us to one method" and that the market for acquiring vehicles is changing; he noted an example that some vehicle brands are now being sold on platforms such as Amazon. He said the proposal preserves existing options "Bidding, state contract, purchasing cooperatives," while adding the ability to use other purchase or lease structures when appropriate.
A supervisor moved to approve the change and the board approved the policy update by voice vote; the chair stated the motion carried. Derek said the change would allow staff to select the method "that makes most sense to the county at the time" and that staff will review other parts of the purchasing policy in the coming weeks for additional updates.
