Board proclaims April 2025 as Week of the Young Child for Graham and Greenlee region

The Graham County Board of Supervisors voted March 17 to proclaim April 2025 as the Week of the Young Child for the Graham-Greenlee region after a presentation by Sherry Elkins, regional director for First Things First.
Elkins, who identified herself as the Regional Director for First Things First for the Graham-Greenlee region, described First Things First as Arizona's early childhood agency and asked the board to recognize the importance of high-quality early childhood experiences. She said the proclamation would raise awareness of early learning and noted volunteers Donna McGaughey and Dustin Welker for their participation on the region's First Things First council. Elkins also provided children's books and invited board members to read the proclamation and sign it for a photo.
A board member requested a motion to approve the proclamation. The motion was made and seconded; the board approved the proclamation by voice vote. During the public reading, the proclamation text named First Things First, the Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children, the Southern Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children and declared April 2025 the Week of the Young Child in the Graham-Greenlee region.
Board members thanked Elkins for the work of First Things First and took a photo with the proclamation.
The proclamation text emphasizes access to quality early care from birth to age 5, support for early childhood educators and the role of such investments in family and community well-being.
