Trustees approve five-year EMS maintenance contract, department pay adjustment and equipment purchases

At the April meeting Morgan Township Trustees approved multiple motions from the fire and EMS department covering maintenance, personnel pay and equipment purchases.
Chief Mignery requested a motion to enter a five-year contract with Renew Biomedical Services LLC for annual preventative maintenance on EMS equipment. Trustees approved the motion; roll-call votes recorded included yes votes by Mr. Cole, Mr. Brucker and Mr. Huff.
The board approved a 50¢-per-hour increase for all fire department personnel, effective May 11, to replace staggered anniversary step increases. Trustees said the change simplifies payroll and consolidates raises to a single annual adjustment.
Trustees also approved donating expired fire gear to D. Russell Lee High School’s fire program: 13 bunker coats, 13 bunker pants, 20 helmets and four pairs of boots. The board said the items had been donated around the state previously and that local donation was appropriate.
Separately, trustees authorized a purchase order to Fire Safety Services, Inc. (FSS Inc.) related to turnout gear and helmets purchased under a State of Ohio fire marshal grant. Chief Mignery said the grant covers most costs; the township will pay the remaining local share. The motion authorizing the purchase order passed with recorded yes votes by Mr. Cole, Mr. Brooker and Mr. Huff.
Chief Mignery told trustees the EMS contract is expected to save at least $45,000 over five years compared with the next-lowest bid and that the maintenance contract will cover power cots, stair chairs, Lucas devices and monitors. Trustees did not change department staffing levels at the meeting.
