County signs IGAs with ADOT for rail-highway safety upgrades at two Claypool crossings

The Gila County Board of Supervisors authorized execution of two intergovernmental agreements (IGAs) with the Arizona Department of Transportation to fund rail-highway safety improvement projects at two Arizona Eastern Railway grade crossings in Claypool.
The board adopted Resolution No. 25-02-04 authorizing IGA No. 240009674I for safety improvements at Marion Street and Railroad Avenue. The board also adopted Resolution No. 25-02-03 authorizing IGA No. 2400009686I for improvements at Grover Canyon Road (sometimes recorded as "Rover Canyon" in materials). County staff said ADOT evaluated multiple county crossings, prioritized the locations and is funding the construction in cooperation with the railroad; after construction the county will maintain the road and the railroad will maintain the tracks.
Supervisors noted the Grover Canyon crossing carries heavy truck traffic from the rod plant and asked that state engineers account for that in design. ADOT will lead design and construction; county public-works staff will take over long-term road maintenance responsibilities when work is complete. Both resolutions were approved by unanimous voice vote.
