Council notes ferry delay, transit public comment period and summer events; resident seeks update on legislative priorities

At the start of the April 28 meeting Mayor Miller opened with announcements including a delayed return date for the Guemes Island ferry after a haul-out in Skagit County; staff said Skagit County estimated a delay of at least a week and a half after an expected April 30 return date and directed residents to skagitcounty.net/ferry for updates.
Council also noted the Skagit Transit long-range transit plan is open for public comment through Wednesday, May 14; public feedback is available at skagitransit.org and paper forms at Skagit Station. The council announced a San Juan County marine transportation pilot program offering free daily passenger service between Anacortes and San Juan County, including emergency interisland passenger and barge service, running through June 30, 2025; schedules are on sanjuancountywa.gov.
The mayor also reminded the public that July 4 float applications and Grand Marshal nominations remain open online and at the senior center.
During public comment Linda Martin thanked the council for its work and requested two items related to the city’s legislative priorities. Martin asked the council for a report summarizing how the city fared on the priorities the council adopted by resolution earlier in the year and, separately, asked that councilmembers share what personal outreach they undertook during the just-completed legislative session (for example, whether they contacted legislators or sent letters) and what, if anything, they accomplished.
