The Spokane City Council approved a petition to vacate a 30‑foot public right‑of‑way known in the packet as Leitau Place, north of Inland Empire Way and adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad, to allow adjacent property owners to consolidate parcels for future development.
City planning staff described the right‑of‑way as an unimproved strip across a field with no city utilities. Staff recommended approval subject to conditions, including aggregation of a parcel that would front the vacated right‑of‑way and payment of the city’s fee for the land, listed in the staff report as $8,155.
Aldeen Brown (presented at the hearing) told the council the right‑of‑way is approximately 30 feet wide, has no city utilities and that the applicant owns parcels on both sides; staff recommended approval with conditions. Brown said the railroad did not comment on the application.
The council closed the public hearing and moved to adopt the ordinance vacating the right‑of‑way. A motion to close the hearing was made and seconded, and the council voted to close the hearing and then voted to adopt the ordinance “subject to conditions as Mr. Elvin spoke to.” The council recorded an approving voice vote and the vacation was approved.
The approval directs staff to record the vacation subject to the standard conditions listed by the department and collect the fees indicated in the staff report.
