Fiber committee reports 2,667 customers served; take rate near 53%

The Anacortes Fiber Committee reported progress on April 28, saying 2,667 customers are in service and the overall community take rate is just shy of 53 percent.
Committee members noted that the Guemes View neighborhood's take rate has risen to about 56 percent and the West End sits near 54 percent. Committee chair McDougall said construction tied to an Economic Development Administration reimbursement is roughly 75 percent complete and that the city expects another optical line terminal (OLT) to be installed in the operations yard later in the month.
The report also named staffing changes: Corby Stevens joined the fiber team as a network engineer, and Dawson Ulmer will remain on an ad hoc basis to assist during the transition.
Committee discussion touched on reimbursement timing for remaining EDA funds, which staff said will be paid as subconsultant or contractor milestones are met. Committee members reported sign-ups across the city are approaching 4,000 but that 2,667 customers were currently in service.
No formal council action was required on the report.
