City OKs $181,712 contract modification for Pump Station 16 construction support

Anacortes City Council on April 28 authorized a $181,712 modification to the Wilson Engineering LLC contract to provide construction engineering support for the Pump Station 16 reconstruction, increasing the total contract price to $440,002.
The modification was described by Andy Rayum, Anacortes Public Works director, as contingency funding to cover construction-stage engineering questions and potential changes. “The amount before you is a bit on the high end, but that's because we're not sure what they're going to need. I wouldn't expect to use that amount of money,” Rayum said.
Councilmember Michael Fantini moved the contract modification; Councilmember Tom Young seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously among voting councilmembers present: Young, Walters, Cleland McGrath, Moulton, McDougall, Seabick and Fantini.
Rayum told the council Wilson Engineering designed the station and will be most able to respond during construction if the contractor, Faber Construction, has questions or if field conditions require design changes. The modification funds construction-period engineering support from Wilson Engineering and its subcontractors.
Council did not identify any additional conditions on the modification during the vote. The staff presentation noted the line item is intended to cover unforeseen issues such as hard-to-get parts or other delays but that the city may not spend the full amount.
The council approved the modification during the regular meeting; no further action on the item was scheduled.
