Bill O’Donnell, the district’s communications lead, briefed the Stevens Point Area Public School District board on Sept. 9 about outreach campaigns, media coverage and the Cubs Club early-enrollment effort aimed at birth-to-4 families.
O’Donnell said the communications team distributed a “Work with Purpose” postcard to recruit employees and a Cubs Club enrollment piece to partner organizations (healthcare facilities, daycares). He said the Cubs Club campaign collects contact and milestone information for families with children birth to age 4 and that the district launched the campaign about two weeks before the board meeting.
Media and digital reach: O’Donnell said the district issued five releases in August and secured coverage from the Stevens Point Journal, Point Plover Metrowire, WSAW and WAOW, and that district social-media impressions and engagement rose with back-to-school content. He highlighted a SPASH football kickoff video as a high-performing piece that showed staff engagement and activities tied to student orientation.
Automation and questions from the board: During Q&A, a board member asked what Cubs Club offers parents; communications staff said it is intended to connect families to community resources earlier and to provide development milestones and district information prior to school entry. A board member asked whether enrollment is automated; communications staff said the sign-up sequence is automated and time-triggered emails will be sent based on birthday and enrollment triggers.
Ending: O’Donnell said the team will continue to build website content, grow Cubs Club enrollment and pursue conference presentations on communications with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and related organizations.
