Student asks board for 30-minute lunch periods at district schools

During the public-comment portion of the Jan. 13 meeting a student, Lila Klednitzky, told the board she wants all Middleton schools to provide 30-minute lunch periods. Speaking from the meeting table, Lila said longer lunches would help students learn with full stomachs, reduce rushing and improve happiness; she suggested options so students would not miss recess—either being excused at the normal dismissal time or staying an extra five to 10 minutes to finish lunch.
The board thanked her for coming and for advocacy. The district did not take action on the request at the meeting; no staff report or policy motion about lunch length was presented that evening.
