Council Rock outlines full‑day kindergarten rollout, community night and screening schedule

Paul Crawford, director of elementary education, told the education committee on April 28 that full‑day kindergarten will begin next school year and the district is preparing family outreach, screening and professional development for teachers.
Crawford said the district will hold a full‑day kindergarten community night at Newtown Middle School on May 6: a formal presentation from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a gallery walk in the gym with activity stations, displays by special‑area coordinators, an information table from the Council Rock Education Foundation and a registration assistance table staffed by five district employees.
He said district screening for incoming kindergarteners will take place one day per school between June 4 and June 9 to collect English‑language arts, math and readiness information. The district will send a follow‑up survey to parents and staff after screenings and will offer one centralized makeup screening date in August for late registrants.
Crawford described a three‑day professional development academy for full‑day kindergarten teachers, available in June and again in August, covering screening interpretation, curriculum, daily procedures, report‑card expectations and cohort support for teachers.
Assistant superintendent Andrea Mangold summarized outreach metrics: six mass notification emails totaling roughly 110,000 sends, direct Council Rock account emails, 28,644 postcards mailed, 25 lawn signs, social media impressions (20,587 in last two months; 65,000 since January), two videos with combined 444 views, coverage in The Patch, and website redirects. She also credited technology enhancements that allow the district website to translate non‑image content into 165 languages.
Crawford said registration was “about 442 or 447” with roughly 30–35 registrations incomplete; the district plans to provide an exact number to the board the next day.
