Lynnbrook conducts UPK lottery for 110 applicants; offers contingent on state budget

The Lynnbrook Union Free School District held a publicly streamed Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) lottery Oct. 12 to establish offer order for 110 applicants for the 2025–26 school year.
Dr. Paul Lynch, superintendent of the Lynnbrook Union Free School District, said the district "anticipates the availability of funds to offer every current applicant a seat," but that final eligibility and the number of seats the district can fund depend on the passage of the New York State budget and the state’s per‑pupil allocations. He conducted the drawing with Dr. Berman, assistant superintendent for personnel, transportation and student support services.
The district said the lottery was held for 110 applicants. Tiny Tikes Early Learning Centre has 14 UPK seats reserved; the remaining seats will be filled at the Barry and Florence Freyberg Jewish Community Centre (JCC). Families with children currently enrolled in Tiny Tikes’ three‑year‑old program were given priority to continue at Tiny Tikes for UPK. After Tiny Tikes’ reserved seats are filled, remaining applicants will be assigned to the JCC in the order their lottery numbers were drawn.
UPK eligibility, the district said, is limited to children who reside in the Lynnbrook district and who turn 4 on or before Dec. 1, 2025. The district said families would be notified by email within 24 hours after the drawing with instructions for final registration.
Although the application deadline for the lottery has passed, the district said it will continue to accept applications until its allotment is met and "no later than October" (the transcript did not specify a date). The district said applications received after that cutoff would be considered only for seats at the JCC.
The district will post the video of the drawing and a list of lottery numbers in the order pulled on its website after the event. Final offers remain contingent on state funding and the district’s per‑pupil allocations; no formal offers will be issued until those amounts are confirmed.
