Rowdy Gaines Olympic Pool reopens after $2 million filtration and deck renovation

City Manager and parks staff told the City Commission on April 28 that Rowdy Gaines Olympic Pool reopened after a major rehabilitation that included a new filtration room and replacement of the pool liners and deck surfacing.
City staff said the renovation approached $2 million and replaced the prior briquette‑style chlorination system with a liquid‑bleach disinfection system, which staff described as a cleaner operating method that reduces inert byproducts. The project included a new filtration room, new liners in the main pool and dive well, brick paver deck surfacing and other site improvements in coordination with the Chain O’Lakes Park baseball field project.
Staff said the pool reopened the day of the meeting and that some finishing items remained, including reinstallation of a shade awning and exploration of additional shade structures. City staff invited commissioners and the public to visit the renovated facility for summer programming. The project team, including Julie Adams and construction staff, were thanked by the city manager and commissioners for completing the work on a schedule that permitted a summer opening.
