Council approves grant application for Euclid Heritage Trail to widen sidewalk into 10‑foot trail

The Euclid City Council on April 21 authorized the mayor or her designee to apply for up to $125,000 in Ohio Department of Transportation Pedestrian and Bicycle Special Solicitation funds for the Euclid Heritage Trail project.
City planning staff described the project as converting the existing five‑foot concrete sidewalk on the south side of Euclid Avenue between Highland Road and East 220th Street into a 10‑foot wide asphalt trail, starting with a roughly 1,200 linear‑foot Zone 1 between Highland Road and Short Chardon in partnership with Cleveland Metroparks.
“This is a phenomenal opportunity to extend this benefit,” the director of planning said, noting the trail will connect businesses and residences to the Metroparks and the larger Euclid Creek Greenway and that design work and construction documents will be completed this year with construction expected in 2026.
Council unanimously approved the resolution sending the grant application; staff said the grant funds will help advance design and construction in spring 2026.
