The City Council authorized the purchase of 13717 Haggerty from ILC Dearborn LLC for $360,000 to provide parking and storage for the nearby fire station and to house emergency-management supplies.
Council members said the parcel will resolve longstanding parking constraints at Fire Station 4 and provide enclosed storage for items that the department must keep nearby. The mayor and fire staff told the council the site is less than a block from the station and that the purchase will relieve operational constraints posed by a landlocked site.
Some residents and members of the council questioned the assessor’s taxable value for the parcel, which was shown in the record at roughly $63,000. Council member Hamoud said the city’s review included realtor comparables showing higher market value and that the administration’s acquisition pricing was informed by a market analysis; the city attorney said comparable backup would be provided to council in confidence prior to closing.
The resolution authorized the mayor and corporation counsel to execute purchase documents on the city’s behalf and authorized the finance director to issue the purchase warrant subject to adjustments and standard closing conditions. The administration said the closing is expected within 90 days of council approval.
