Waukee approves rezoning, Remington Point plats and construction drawings

The Waukee City Council on April 14 approved multiple land-use items including a second-reading rezoning for a 1.95-acre parcel known as I‑Eighty West Industrial, final rezoning for the Remington Point development, and preliminary plat, phase approvals and construction drawings for multiple Remington Point phases.

Planning staff described the I‑Eighty West Industrial rezoning (rezoning from A‑1 and C‑1 to M‑1) for a 1.95‑acre parcel north of Interstate Parkway and west of View Avenue; the council approved the second reading of the ordinance on a unanimous roll-call vote.

For the Remington Point development (south of University Avenue, west of 17th Street), the council approved the third and final reading of a rezoning ordinance (R‑2 to R‑2/PD‑1 and R‑2/PD‑1 to R‑2) for about 15.3 acres, as well as a preliminary plat for Remington Point Phase 2 covering about 38.7 acres that identifies 88 single-family lots (split between R‑2 and R‑2 with planned development overlay), outlots for future townhomes and six commercial outlots along University Avenue. The preliminary plat also includes stormwater outlots to be owned and maintained by homeowners associations and a fee-in-lieu for park dedication (6.7 acres was the overall park dedication for Remington Point).

The council also approved construction drawings for Remington Point Plat 4 (24 single-family lots, extension of Worthamond Drive and public utilities). Planning staff said utilities will be extended throughout the plat and private utilities will serve the townhome area.

All land-use actions passed on roll-call votes with council members Kron, Pierce, Sinclair, Battenberg, Grove and Crown voting yes.
