Meredith Zagarovich told the Hampton Township Council on April 23 that she and neighbors want a sidewalk from 4348 Glades Drive to the area outside Central Elementary and the adjacent Discovery School.

Zagarovich said she and other young families in her neighborhood use the park and school walkways and that adding a sidewalk would make walking with children and strollers feasible. She said she has prepared a neighborhood survey documenting local use and offered to provide it to the township.

Council President responded that the township is looking to add sidewalks across neighborhoods but that the location matters: Middle Road is a county road, which would require coordination with the county, while municipal roads are easier for the township to address. A staff member noted that sidewalks have been added during repaving projects where roadway width allows, and council members said they would investigate whether Tottenham Drive has sufficient width for a new sidewalk during next year’s paving work.

Council member Miss Fritch asked that the township consider more-complex connectivity projects in upcoming strategic planning rather than relying on individual neighborhoods to advocate alone. Council members said staff will investigate feasibility, clarify whether the requested sections are county or municipal jurisdiction, and report back; if Middle Road work is pursued it would require a county request.

The council did not take immediate formal action; members asked staff to review roadway jurisdiction, pavement width on Tottenham Drive, and the information Zagarovich offers to submit, and to consider the item for next year’s paving and connectivity planning.
