The commission approved performance agreements and deposits for musical acts and associated event services for the city's FreedomFest scheduled June 28, and authorized a conditional $5,000 sponsorship to the Greater Chamber of Commerce tied to event performance.
Staff presented three performance agreements for the 2025 RTC FreedomFest. Legal reviewed the agreements and recommended edits; staff requested approval subject to adding legal's recommended contract language. Commissioners approved contracting with the acts after the recommended changes were added to each instrument.
Separately the commission considered a $5,000 sponsorship to the Greater Chamber of Commerce to help underwrite a paid act at a chamber event (the transcript references coordination around a band). Legal had flagged a prerequisite for the chamber payment; commissioners decided to delay payment until the prerequisite was satisfied. Later in the meeting the commission approved releasing $5,000 to the Greater Chamber of Commerce on the condition that the chamber provide the contracted performance on the agreed date; the motion specified funds would be disbursed only after completion of the performance.
Staff also explained the longtime relationship with the fireworks and entertainment vendor and noted the cost for this year's show aligned with or was cheaper than recent years. The EDC and staff reported sponsorships will offset event costs; staff are handling deposits and vendor coordination.
The commission's votes to accept the contracts were unanimous on motions to approve with legal edits; the conditional $5,000 sponsorship was approved unanimously subject to completion of the performance.
