The Centre County Board of Commissioners on April 17 accepted $104,043 in Juvenile Court Judges' Commission (JCJC) juvenile probation services grant funds and agreed to add a contract with the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center in Ohio to next week’s consent agenda as an as-needed emergency backup.

County probation staff told the board the grant funds will be used for employee salaries. Staff emphasized the county’s intention to continue using the Centre County Youth Center (CCYC) as its primary placement and said the Jefferson County contract would be used only when no other housing was available. The proposed rate for out-of-county placements was stated as $225 per day.

A commissioner moved and seconded to accept the grant and add the contract to next week’s consent agenda; the board approved both items by voice vote.
